Athletics Auckland Competition Rules - McKinnon Shield

2019/2020 season

These rules are to be read in conjunction with the IAAF handbook and the Athletics New Zealand Supplementary Rules.
To compete at an Athletics Auckland sanctioned meet you must be a registered athlete. Secondary School athletes not registered with a club can compete up until the NZSS Championships in Wellington. School uniform must be worn. Entries are taken online.
Athletics Auckland will appoint a Technical Delegate and an Administration Delegate for each meet.

The entry form will be published on the Athletics Auckland website and social media pages on the Monday prior to the meet
Entries for each meet close on the Thursday prior at 12.00 midnight
Late entries are not accepted after 12.00 midnight or on the day
The Athletics Auckland Administration delegate will publish the entry list on the Athletics Auckland website and social media pages on the night prior to the meet
Times on the programme are draft until entries close. Times will be confirmed when the entry list is published
Any corrections must be emailed to 
There will be no changes to event or grade on the day
Athletes that have entered prior to entries closing can compete in the relay. You cannot run in a relay if you haven’t entered or competed during the meet


Results during the meet will be published on the Track Meet Mobile and on the web live results. The link will be on the event page for each event
There will be no paper results during the meet
Final results will be published to the Athletics Auckland website and social media pages as soon as possible after the conclusion of the event


Athletics Auckland recommends athletes wear the uniform of their registered club

Check in

All athletes must check in no later than 60 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of your first event
Athletes that fail to check in will be scratched from the event - no exceptions
Track athletes need to report to the start no later than 15 minutes prior to the start line
Field athletes need to report in time in order to complete warm up procedures so the event can start on time
Events will not be delayed


If you are going to scratch from an event please inform the officials at the check in desk at least 30 minutes prior so start lists can be redrawn. 
Athletics Auckland will also have an event mobile that is available for scratchings via TXT only on the day of the event from 9.00am through to the end of competition. Please do not leave a voicemail - Phone number TBC

Entry Costs

Athletics Auckland charge an entry fee for all events. This entry fee goes towards any stadium costs, competition management costs and replacement/movement of gear.
Registered Auckland club athletes - $7
School athletes (must compete in school uniform) - $8
Out of Auckland registered athletes - $10
Entry fees are paid at the time of entry through the online entry system

Personal Implements

Personal implements will be accepted 60 minutes prior to the event (90 minutes for Javelin)
These must be delivered to the Check in desk who will then pass them onto the Technical Manager/Referee to check


Athletics Auckland will not change competition programmes during the season or add in events. 

Safety - In the interests of safety the following should be adhered to at all times;

Spikes are only to be worn in the Field of Play (FOP) and relevant warm up areas - i.e inside the fence
Only athletes and officials are to enter the FOP
No one is to cross the infield of the FOP
Warm-ups outside the FOP must be supervised by a coach or parent
Warm-ups inside the FOP are done under the supervision of the Officials and IAAF handbook
No glass is permitted within the FOP
Throwing implements should only be retrieved up by officials or approved assistants
Athletes and officials should take care when crossing the track
Athletes must read and sign the safety notice at the time of entry


At all venues in Auckland the requirements of spikes are as follows;
Track and Long Jump 6mm cone/xmas tree shaped only
High Jump and Javelin 9mm cone/xmas tree shaped only
Needles and Pin type spikes are not allowed

Starting heights

There will be two start heights in Pole Vault. Programme A will be the Lower start height and Programme B will be the higher start height.
Chief Judges and Referees will confirm start heights for High Jump with the athletes on the day

Track Races

All track races are seeded based on previous performance times
Track races (Hurdles will be run in the order shown in the programme) will be run as follows
Women - A race
Women - B race
Women - C race etc
Men - A race
Men - B race
Men - C race

Doping Control

Athletes are reminded that they may be required to undertake doping control at the conclusion of their event
Athletes may elect to have a representative/support person present
